RBA RESEARCH TOPIC AND MIND MAP: DACA and the DREAM Act

My RBA topic will focus on DACA and the DREAM Act. I will argue that Trump’s repealing of Obama’s DACA program is exactly the impetus that is necessary for Congress to be able to pass the DREAM Act. The DREAM Act has been introduced and struck down in every Congress, mostly due to the fact that the political climate wasn’t right, and the DACA program pushed the DREAM Act to the background. Since public advocacy is much harder for the undocumented community due to the fact that speaking out could lead to deportation, Trump’s actions might be the perfect substitute that was needed in order for the conversation on the DREAM Act to arise again.
